Hi Tony,
I wanted to share something we did yesterday and some thoughts I had around it.
We had this gap week of not having child care and our kids’ school not starting till next week.
Tony and I decided to condense our schedules a bit and take two days to do things we normally wouldn’t do on a weekday with the kids.
We decided to go hiking at one of our State Parks.
I had never been before, and Tony was a child the last time he had been on the trails.
I decided trail 3 looked fun, it was one of the longer more rugged trails…we got this.
With our 4 and 6-year-old in tow, we started down the trail.
I think they always ease you into the trails before you realize what you are truly in for.
It was beautiful, with sandstone all around us.
Just enough water to get a little muddy, which the kids loved.
The sounds so soothing, the smell of being in nature…
Then the…are we there yet.
No.
But to be honest I had no idea how far we had gone and if we were even on the right trail still!
I also read that this particular trail had 140 steps in it.
I knew we “got this”.
And this is what I wanted to share with you.
Tony and I decided to wait until later in life to have kids and that does come with its unique challenges.
I have had the tear-filled showers where I think about not seeing our kids have kids or being the oldest parents at graduation.
But “this” is what it’s about…
Learning that age is just a number.
It means nothing.
And taking care of my health is my number one priority.
Leo was so tired and when he looked up at the last flight of stairs he started to whimper.
I had to hand it to him, Momma was tired too.
But I told him to get on my back and let’s do this together.
44 lbs of love on my back and Tony cheering me on!
This is why I do the squats, do the lunges, do the protein, do the water, and do the breathing.
It’s so that I know no matter what life throws at me I am ready.
If that means putting 44 lbs on my back and trekking up the stairs…we got this.
I think about always being able to run around and play with the kids.
It matters.
I wanted to share all this today that you are your number one asset, it is never too late to focus on you.
When you do, anything is possible.
Even trail three with a six-year-old on your back!
