I have had this conversation so many times, Arin I am good…until the weekend comes.
Reasonably speaking we do a good job with workouts, nutrition, mindfulness throughout the week.
Then the weekend comes.
We have get-togethers happening again, birthday celebrations, holidays and it is so wonderful to be around friends and family.
But our nutrition goes to hell.
We overconsume and come Monday we are starting all over again.
So, what do you do?
Just stay at home?
No.
We need to take a step back and remember the goal.
(And I want to give you some helpful tips.)
First and foremost, if we have a weight loss goal, why do you have that goal?
What is achieving X amount of weight loss going to do for you?
Then I highly recommend weighing yourself on Friday mornings.
Think about it, you have been great all week lets acknowledge that and see the good progress.
It will also help you going into the weekend with a mindset that can be helpful.
You don’t want to undo those results.
You become more mindful because it’s never fun to start over week after week after week.
Then plan.
What’s coming up this weekend.
What is planned for our food?
Don’t fly by the seat of your pants.
Have some idea of what you will consume and when.
Adjust your caloric intake based on what’s going to happen.
If I know I am going to a family get-together and I don’t want to eat all the things…cause I will.
I take in a protein shake before we go.
That way I am not starving and I know I will not make better decisions.
Be the person that brings a “better” dish.
That doesn’t mean you have to skimp on flavor.
Try to focus on Meat/Veggies, then add just a taste or two of the yummy carbs!
Listen, I am like everyone reading this and I LOVE CARBS.
I used to have a shirt that said that…not sure where it went, but I did.
But that’s where we can get into trouble.
Just be in the moment.
Take in your friends and family, focus on the conversation, and have deep meaningful talks.
In summary:
-If you are on a weight loss journey, why is losing weight important to you. Keep this in front of you at all times.
-Friday Weigh-in, sets the tone going into the weekend
-Plan Food, don’t just show up
-Take in a protein shake before get-togethers
-Focus on Meat/Veggie, but taste the yummy carbs
-Be in the moment and focus on what is important, the people around you, not the food.
Hope this is helpful, let me know if you have a second.
